Zanzibar June 2017

The 2017 June Surgical Training Trip marks Mission: Restore’s fourth training at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Stone Town, Zanzibar. Two Mission: Restore surgeon trainers joined three local surgeons from Mnazi Mmoja and Kivunge Cottage Hospital in Zanzibar.

Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh and Dr. Sol Mundinger performed five surgeries alongside local surgeons over the course of two days. The trip provided the opportunity to expand skill sets in reconstructive surgery, and discuss career goals and next steps with surgeon educators.

Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh and local surgeons were also able to conduct home visits and meet with patients from previous trainings for post-operative check-ins. Together, surgeons assessed how the patients were healing, and gained insight into how the operations improved patients’ lives.
