KABUL, AFGHANISTAN, OCTOBER 2013

Afghanistan is a country of 29 million people with over 30 years of continuous war and devastation. Of those 29 million, there are only 2 self-trained plastic surgeons who are practicing in the capital of Kabul.

In October of 2013, Mission: Restore Volunteer surgeon Dr. Iran Galeria of Virginia went to CURE Hospital in Kabul as part of Mission: Restore's training program. Dr. Galeria worked with Dr. Aolfat Hashimi and Dr Suraya Azad Panah.

Dr. Galaria worked on 27 cases with the surgeons at CURE, including a twenty year-old woman who suffered severe burns to her head. With help from Dr. Galeria, this young woman is now "completely well" and can now lead a fuller and happier life. CURE's resident was also able to receive critical training through this procedure.
