Summer Intern Spotlight

My name is Nayab, the newest member of Mission:Restore as the summer intern. I am from Queens, New York, but currently studying Biology and Nonprofit Leadership at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

In the summer of 2015, I interned at a government hospital in a village in Pakistan. I observed the lack of proper care and basic necessities the hospital had due to insufficient funding and government support. Many nonprofits attempt to help, but fail to provide sustainable methods.

The sustainable method that Mission:Restore uses to share information and learn from other surgeons is what I truly like about it. In addition, I am excited about Mission:Restore’s goal to tackle global health issues by empowering surgeons through education and mentorship.

In the past, I have actively worked with the Penn chapter of Foundation of International Medical Relief for Children (FIMRC) fundraising for programs in Limón, Nicaragua and Bumwalukani, Uganda and coordinating events for it.

This summer I am thrilled to be working on communications and social media at Mission:Restore. I’m looking forward to gaining work experience and skills at a nonprofit that focuses on sustainable ways of empowerment across the globe.
