Abdeen Undergoes His 3rd Surgery –

On September 8th, 2011, Dr. Alizadeh removed the tissue expanders from Abdeen’s face and head and performed reconstructive surgery to repair the tissue inside his mouth to create a larger opening for his mouth. Abdeen is now resting comfortably in the ICU at Winthrop Hospital. Here is a photo of Abdeen just prior to going into surgery.

The missile, fired by troops loyal to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, exploded in her bedroom May 13, severing one of her legs and killing her two siblings. On Thursday, 5-year-old Malak Elshami arrived at a Long Island guesthouse with her father. In the house with her were a half-dozen other children who had been wounded in war zones around the world, including Zeenabdeen Hadi, a 4-year-old Iraqi who moved into the house with his uncle last spring to await plastic surgery on his face scarred in a bombing. ABC 7- Disfigured 3 Year Old Iraqi Boy Finds Hope in Long Island

The Iraqi boy, Zeenabdeen Hadi, has come to Long Island for extensive reconstructive surgery. He will remain here for the next several months, staying with his uncle, who is 20, in a Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park. Beyond the goal of rebuilding the boy’s face, doctors have to close a wound in his forehead that could expose his brain to infection.

A 6-year-old Middle Eastern girl was so severely burned that her growth and mobility would’ve been severely limited had it not been for the help of some Nassau County doctors.

The Long Island-based, not-for-profit group Mission: Restore took on young Nebal Hani al Shamali’s case and she was moved from Gaza to Egypt, where she was immediately flown for care at South Nassau County Burn Center. Read More>>

Wounded Iraqi Boy Finds Hope on LI

Timidly clinging to the hand of his uncle, the 3-year-old Iraqi boy walked into the office of a Manhasset plastic surgeon.

The pair had left Baghdad early last week, flying first to Istanbul and on to New York. On Thursday afternoon, they arrived at the doctor’s office carrying photographs of the boy’s disfigured face. They also brought with them the hope that the doctor can make him whole again, that the boy, who turns 4 tomorrow, can be reborn.
